Gloria
Film Titles & Graphics
2025Gloria is a short film about dementia, community, and one Chinese woman’s enduring love of learning. Filmed in the San Francisco Bay Area and shot on 16mm, Gloria made its world premiere at the 2025 Tribeca Festival.
I collaborated closely with director, Kim Blanck, conceptualizing the design direction and tackling design for the titles, credits and the film poster.
The typography in the film is inspired by signage that might exist outside a neighborhood grocer, skewing towards a Mexican and Spanish influence. I was intrigued by the idea of bringing that into the typography, as Gloria’s journey into learning Spanish is one of the main drivers of the narrative.
The film is visually very colorful and is a celebration of Gloria's resilience, so the typography to skewed more playful to match the tone of the film.
I came up with the concept for the poster, which was inspired by the market that Gloria visits, a pivotal location in the film.
We had the design screen-printed on grocery bags and photographed the bag for real for the poster.
